Dayam Pada Hua

Kapil Jain's Understanding of
Mirza Ghalib's Ghazal
"Dayam Pada Hua,  Tere Dar Par Nahi Hu May"

Door, Entrance
Ashes, Dust , worthless
Stone

Real Meaning :
I am a human with heart & mind ,
Not a heartless ( stone ) Lying at your door ( on your mercy ) , if this life is such than like ashes ( worthless )

--------------------------------------------

Cup
Goblet , Wine Cup
Heartless Ideal items

Being a human , bound to fear ( worried ) with continues bad luck , not like ideal cup & kettle.

--------------------------------------------

Oh - God
ज़माना : era
मिटाता : wipe , erase
लौह : iron
जहाँ  :  world , earth , universe
लौह-ए- जहाँ  : world , universe ( here meaning word etched on iron plate )
Alphabet
मुक़र्रर : repeated
हर्फ़-ए-मुक़र्रर : repeated word

Oh God , why society want to erase me ,
I am a fragile soul, henceforth die down itself , not a parmanent word etched on a iron plate to be fixed for centuries. ( Like History Books )

--------------------------------------------

Infidel ( here meaning : ultimate crime )

Here Ghalib has Cautioned the Civilizations about the misuse of powers by ruling elite in their waisted intrest.

I understand , to maintain civility in society , proper due persecution required for guilty within limits of prescribed Laws , henceforth here I am merely guilty ( not murderer like criminal who deserve ultimate punishment of hanging ).

--------------------------------------------

किस : why , which , whom
वास्ते : for the sake of

This a satire on the society by Ghalib, means society care only for those , which are materialistically valuable.

I am a ordinary man ,
That's why my favorite people admire me,
I am not precious or valuable or a wealthy person like ruby , emerald , gold or pearl.

--------------------------------------------

1. scholarship of a month
2. Sun and Moon

Literally two Meaning can be extracted out of this couplet :
First :
Why you try to avoid me as I am inferior to you , in status I am as bright and beautiful as sun and moon.
Second :
Why you try to avoid me as I am inferior to you , in Rank , my scholarship per month is not less than you.

--------------------------------------------

मना-ए-क़दम-बोस : forbidden to kiss feet
Ghalib has derived this couplet from a Hindi Proverb which said

Please don't under estimate me ,
I will succeed that skies will be on my feet.

--------------------------------------------

Poet 'Mirza Ghalib' referring himself
वज़ीफ़ा : scholarship
ख़्वार : recipient
वज़ीफ़ा-ख़्वार : scholarship recipient
शाह : monarch, king , ruler
दुआ : blessings , prayers , wish

नौकर : servant

Oh Ghalib , Now as you are a scholarship recipient , Say thanks to the King for his kind blessings ,
Old bad days are over when people used to tease me as Servant , Now I'm not.

Ibn e mariyam hua kare koi

Kapil Jain Translation of

Mirza Ghalib's Ghazal

Ibn e mariyam hua kare koi

The end....
_______________________
-ऐ- : conjunction
Virgin Mary
Jesus Christ

I Know about healing power of  Son of Virgin Mary ( Jesus Christ),
let me be blessed to find the remedies for my sufferings.

Islamic Divine code
-ओ- : conjunction
आईन : constitution
Islamic law's constitution
Perimeter

This is the master stroke of Ghalib in which
he is making an satire on hardliners,
who they interpret the religious belief for their vested interest.
How to deal with the "Killer"? ,
who acts within the defined
perimeter of divine laws interpreted by them .
____________________________
Your dealing method are so rough,
Like a arrow striked from a stiff bow,
Pierced directly in my heart.,
So heart breaking,
No way to enter someone's heart.
_________________________
My opinion was interrupted always,
Only their opinions are allowed & appreciated there.
_________________________
Speaking nonsense in obsession  ,
God forbid : no body understand nothing.
__________________________
Don't listen if someone says nonsense, ignore
Don't say if someone do bad or ugly. Ignore
__________________________
Stop if someone steps wrong,
Forgive if someone do mistake
_________________________
In this world, who is not needy?
Means everyone is needy,
Is anybody available to satisfy everybody's need.
_________________________
Khwaja Khizr   "The Green Man" : is reputedly the only soul who has gained life immortal from tasting of the Fountain of Life.
Alexander the great
रहनुमा : to guide someone
The highest benchmark of guidance is the accurate way in which "Khizr" guided "Alexander" to persuade life,
Now no accurate guide, nor disciple,
Therefore whom to guide & by whom?
_________________________
Complaints
When no expectations remains,
What is the point to be a complainant?

Koi mere dil se puche

Koi mere dil se puche
Tere teere neem kash ko
Yeh khalish kaha se hoti
Jo jigar ke paar hota
                      .......  Ghalib

May any body ask my heart regarding
Your  intended arrow with poison dipped tip
This desperation would not be existing
If arrow would have crossed my heart, killing me in result.
(the arrow is a metaphor for your unconditional love for me,  it is in my heart creating a hell of desperation)
